What we hold, and what we never see.
This page describes how TLDR Money handles your information. The plain-English summary below is accurate and is what the app actually does. The formal policy that sits underneath it is being finalised.
Status of this page
The summary on this page is complete and accurate as a description of the software. The formal policy language is with our lawyer and will replace the marked sections below before launch. If anything here is unclear in the meantime, email hello@tldrmoney.app and we will answer it directly.
The short version
- No bank connection. The app never links to a bank or a card, so there are no account credentials of yours in our systems and nothing of the kind for a breach to reach.
- No access to your mail or messages. The app does not read email, SMS or notifications on any platform.
- Your transactions stay on your side. They are not sent to a model provider, ever. Only your question is.
- No ads and no data sale. No advertising networks, no data brokers, no resale in any form, anonymised or otherwise.
- This website runs no analytics. No visitor tracking, no cookies, no third-party scripts, and nothing to consent to. That is why there is no cookie banner.
1. What is collected
What the app holds: the transactions you create, their amounts, merchants, categories and dates; your budgets, alerts and recurring entries; your account currency and the store country recorded when you signed up; and the email address you registered with.
What the website holds: nothing. There is no analytics, no cookie, no pixel and no third-party script on any page of this site. The calculators run entirely in your browser and the figures you type into them are never transmitted anywhere.
What is never collected: bank credentials, account numbers, balances held anywhere other than what you type in, the contents of your email, your messages, your contacts, or your location.
TODO_NIRMAL: the lawyer’s formal enumeration of categories, legal bases and retention periods replaces this section.
2. What leaves your device
Three things leave your device, and it is worth being exact about each.
- Voice entry: the audio you record is sent to a speech-to-text provider so it can be turned into words. It is deleted immediately after transcription.
- Chat entry: the text of the message you type is sent to a model provider so it can be turned into structured transactions. The parsed transactions are stored; the raw message is not.
- Ask: your question, your category names and your account currency are sent to a model provider so the question can be turned into a query. Your transactions are not sent. The query runs against your own ledger and the app computes and writes the answer itself.
Your transactions never leave your device for a model provider. Only your question does.
Your transactions do sync to our own servers so the app works across your devices and so a shared ledger can be shared. That is a different thing from sending them to a third party, and this page does not blur the two.
3. Third-party processors
Voice audio and chat text are processed by a third-party model provider outside your country. This is the one place where information you typed or spoke is handled by another company, and it is disclosed here rather than buried.
TODO_NIRMAL (SITE-BLOCKERS #5): the lawyer to confirm the final wording of the processor disclosure, the named provider, the processing location, and the transfer mechanism for each of the six markets. Do not publish a named provider here until that is confirmed.
4. How long anything is kept
Voice recordings are deleted as soon as they have been transcribed. Raw chat messages are not stored at all. Your transactions are kept for as long as your account exists, because they are the product.
TODO_NIRMAL: formal retention periods, including for backups and logs, come from the lawyer.
5. Deleting your data
Email hello@tldrmoney.app from the address on your account and we will delete the account and everything in it. Export a CSV first if you want to keep your history — export is free on every plan, and deletion is not reversible.
TODO_NIRMAL: the formal rights section, including the request-handling window and the rights specific to each of the six markets, comes from the lawyer.
6. Children
TODO_NIRMAL: age threshold and the statement covering it come from the lawyer.
7. Changes to this policy
TODO_NIRMAL: notification mechanism and effective-date handling come from the lawyer.
